How Long Does An Eye Exam With Dilation Take

How to Adjust to Progressive Lenses & Multifocal Glasses | LensCrafters

An eye exam during which the optometrist dilates your pupils can take an hour or more. This is because the eye drops that dilate your eyes may need up to half an hour before theyve taken full effect .

Once your eyes are dilated, the optometrist will be able to look through your pupils to examine the interior parts of your eyes, including your retina and optic nerve.

Not all eye exams require that your pupils be dilatedit may depend on your medical history, date of last dilation, prescription strength, or other factors. Some eyecare offices now have advanced machinery that can photograph the back of the eye without first dilating your pupils . Make sure to chat with your doctor on what the best course of action is for you and your retinas!

Why Do Glasses Take So Long To Arrive

These days, delivery is about fast, fast, fast. So much of what we buy online is on our doorstep within 2 or 3 business days. So why does a simple pair of glasses take a week or more to show up?

The lens-making process starts with a large lens mold, which is then shaved down to fit your exact prescription proportions. Throw in extra lens coatings like UV-protective, anti-reflective, photochromic and scratch-resistant coatings plus the time it takes to be delivered and youve got a roughly 2-week process.

The good news is your glasses may not take that long to arrive. Youll often be given a 7- to 10-day delivery window, only to be told your frames are ready for you 3 or 4 days later. Prescription sunglasses, progressive lenses or glasses with high-power or unusual prescriptions may take a few days longer, given the added complexity of the order.

From the fun of shopping for new frames to seeing more clearly with a new prescription getting new glasses can be a really rewarding experience. Its a once-every-few-years occasion for some, while others pick up a new pair once or twice every year.

The satisfaction of a pristine new pair of glasses is always worth the wait.

Don’t Waste You Money Or Time

If there were a negative star, I would give it….just the worst customer service, I went back for a second time within 6 months to have the AR coating replaced as it did not hold up again after the first replacement…and they told me it was probably my fault due to the way I was cleaning them!! I have been wearing glasses for over 40 years and never have I been told that, even after I told her I used a microfiber cloth and AR safe cleaner…this manager also went on to say if I had purchased the protection agreement then I would be covered…..isn’t that special, because their coating is deficient, I have to pay more money to have the “premium” coating replaced or just live with it….sorry! I will NEVER use Lenscrafters again and will go out of my way to share my experience – just awful!!!

Price Was A Key Factor In The Rating

Founded in 1917, Persol proves you can still look stylish at 100 years ...

Costco may be your first stop for prescriptions, toilet paper, even extra-virgin olive oil. But do you really want to buy your eyeglasses from a warehouse club?

The answer is yes. Consumer Reportssurveyed more than 91,000 members, and Costco Optical topped the list of eyeglass retailers for customer satisfaction. The key factor? Price. The median cost for glasses at Costco was $186, while the median price at LensCrafters was $369.

The warehouse club chain also scored well on the quality of the frames it sells and follow-up service, according to consumer website Clark.com. Other discount retailers like Sams Club and Walmart also placed well in the survey on price, but lacked the same selection, according to Consumer Reports.

Another perk? Eye exams are one of the things you can get without having a Costco membership, an employee at Costcos Yonkers, New York, location confirmed. A basic exam there costs $79 and Costco accepts major insurances.

You will need a membership to buy frames and lenses, however. The average price of frames in the Yonkers location is $60. Getting glasses for more than just yourself? You can get $30 off the second pair if you buy them the same day. Glasses and lenses arent the only unexpected things you can get at Costcohere are more surprising items the warehouse club chain sells.
