Is Costco A Vsp Provider
According to Costco Opticals website, Costco accepts most vision insurance plans. But we had to do a little digging to find out exactly what that means.
Unfortunately, Costco is not a VSP network provider. Customers can still use Costco Optical with VSP insurance, but Costco is treated as an out-of-network provider. So, customers are responsible for submitting claims for reimbursement after receiving care.
Whats the difference between out-of-network and in-network providers?
Good question. Out-of-network means that your provider and your insurance company dont communicate. In other words, your provider wont be able to bill your insurance company directly because there is no existing relationship between the two companies. An in-network provider is a provider that has an established relationship with your insurance company and can take care of the billing process for you.
A provider being out-of-network does not have to mean that you wont be able to work with that provider. It just means youll have a little bit of extra leg work to do in order to get your care covered. To submit an out-of-network coverage claim to VSP, simply follow the steps listed on their website here.

Vsp Providers For Eye Exams
Taking care of your eyes should be part of everyones regular healthcare routine. A yearly eye exam is recommended, though some patients may need more frequent exams. Anyone with a family history of eye disease, diabetes, or other health conditions or medications affecting the eyes should ask their eye doctor how often they should get examined.
Vision evaluations typically involve a refractive exam, dilation, and a prescription for glasses or contact lenses. Your eye doctor may also provide important information about your overall eye health including diagnosis of eye conditions such as glaucoma or cataracts.

Why Children Need Coverage
Poor eyesight can lead to misdiagnosis of learning and psychiatric disorders, which can result in behavioral problems.3
Vision insurance plans complement health insurance because preventive eye care is essential to your overall health. Vision problems are the fourth most prevalent disability in the United States and one of the most prevalent conditions in childhood.2
Even if you have perfect eyesight, it’s important to have regular eye exams to make sure you still see clearly. Most of us eventually need vision correction.
It covers routine eye exams and helps pay for glasses, contact lenses – things not typically covered by health insurance.
Vision care is vital to overall health, and coverage helps encourage an annual eye exam. It also makes glasses and contacts easier to afford.

Vsp Vision Insurance Is Not Insurance
VSP stands for Vision Service Plan, and it is a Vision Benefit plan that covers an eye exam and eyeglasses – one pair each year or two years. There are over 10,000 different VSP Vision plans, each offer a different benefit for eyeglasses. To find out exactly what your plan covers, you need to contact VSP, or your plan administrator.VSP Vision admits mostly optometrist-owned businesses into its provider network. So if you want to use a VSP Vision benefit for your eyeglasses, you must choose from the selection of eyeglass frames and lenses offered by the optometrist. Optometrist-owned optical shops typically have much higher prices than Eyeglasses.com, because they know that they will need to discount and mark down their products for customers with VSP Vision insurance. Also, to use VSP Vision benefits, in most cases VSP will do your lens laboratory work, so you do not have access to higher quality lenses like Essilor, Varilux, or Zeiss. Before you make a decision of where to buy the best prescription glasses for your needs and budget, we urge you to compare your out-of-network provider benefit options to your in-network provider benefit options. For most people, vision benefits plans are a bad deal.

Where Vsp Eye Doctors Practice
VSP providers practice in all kinds of settings, including:
Private practices One eye doctor who practices alone.
Group practices Multiple eye doctors who practice at the same office or group of offices. Sometimes, both optometrists and ophthalmologists practice at the same location.
Retail stores Stand-alone shops and regional/national chains that offer eye exams and sell corrective lenses on-site. Ex: LensCrafters, Visionworks
Eye doctors at retail chains and vision centers are usually optometrists who primarily perform routine comprehensive eye exams.
If youre experiencing any specific eye-related symptoms, such as pain, redness or sudden changes in your vision, you may want to schedule a visit with an optometrist or ophthalmologist in a private or group practice.
These doctors are usually better equipped to diagnose, manage and treat medical eye conditions. But keep in mind that appointments with ophthalmologists may be billed as medical visits, which are covered by health insurance instead of vision insurance.
